Our Cake Shipping Story

How It Began
During the pandemic, some of our longtime customers moved away from New York but still reached out with one request: “Can you ship us a cake?”
At first, we said no. We weren’t sure the cakes would withstand the trip or reflect the care and quality we put into every order.

The Idea of Cakes in a Tin
For decades, tin containers have been used to store and share favorites like cookies, and during the holiday season, for pound cakes and fruitcakes. They have also been the classic home of Caribbean rum cake, a traditional cake made with dried fruits soaked in rum.

In recent years, the practice of shipping cakes in tins has grown in the Dominican baking community, inspiring us to find a way to serve our loyal customers who had moved away but still wanted our cakes.

Our long-distance customers continued to ask us to ship them a cake, and while we wanted to say yes, we were hesitant. Cakes are delicate, and we had never tried shipping them this way before. Shipping cakes in tins was something others were already doing, but we knew we had to develop a process that worked for us. It may sound simple, but shipping a cake required testing, planning, and care. What may work for some people or businesses may not necessarily work for others.

Our First Test
In 2024, encouraged by our customers’ requests, we finally decided to give it a try. We shipped free trial batches of cakes in tins across the U.S., waiting anxiously for feedback. We had to make some minor changes to our recipes, fine-tune logistics, and account for the many factors involved in shipping something as delicate as a Dominican cake with filling and Italian meringue (suspiro). After some trial and error, the results spoke for themselves: the cakes arrived fresh, tasted delicious, and most importantly, our customers were thrilled.

A Sweet New Chapter
That was the turning point. Soon, orders began coming in not only from our loyal long-distance customers who were thrilled to finally enjoy our cakes again but also from new customers in places where Dominican cake wasn’t easy to find. As word spread, more people reached out, eager to experience the flavor they had been missing.

Our Version, From the Heart
Our Dominican cakes in a tin are more than a product. They are a celebration of tradition.

Each cake is freshly prepared, placed in our signature white tins, tied with our custom logo ribbons, carefully wrapped for protection, and paired with instructions. They are made to bring back the memories that matter most: childhood celebrations, family gatherings, and the taste of home. For many, Dominican cake is more than a dessert; it’s a connection to culture, heritage, and the moments we long to relive.

This journey would not exist without our customers: those who moved away but never stopped supporting us, and those who live in places where Dominican cakes are hard to find.

Today, we’re proud to ship our cakes nationwide, straight to your door. For us, it’s more than cake; it’s the feeling of celebration, a piece of heritage preserved, and a way to relive the moments that mean the most, no matter the distance.
